Thematic Curriculum

Our young learners enjoy our thematic curriculum, a contemporary and effective approach that enhances the efficiency of their education. Instead of focusing solely on individual subjects, they enthusiastically engage in learning through thematic exploration, aligning with our vision of holistic education.

The Early Years & Infants program is structured into several concise thematic learning units, designed to provide a multitude of immersive learning experiences for young children. These experiences are thoughtfully crafted not only to meet the individual needs of children but also to nurture and encourage their evolving interests. By doing so, these experiences lay the essential groundwork, equipping them with foundational knowledge that will prove invaluable in their future education and development. Practitioners assume a crucial role in attuning themselves to the needs and interests of the children, thereby creating a stimulating environment that fosters continuous learning and growth.

The Early Years & Infants curriculum design has incorporated the Developmental Matters Framework from the EYFS and has been harmonised with The principles of Shakhsiyah Education.

For the Autumn Term this year, our students of Red class dived into the theme of “Myself – The Beginnings” that has been incorporated into all subjects.

Halaqah/ Personal, social and emotional development

Our aim is to work together with parents, teachers and children to build positive relationships amongst us which will then aid the development of each child’s Shakhsiyah and their own identity. Throughout the term the children will start to learn that Allah (swt) is our creator through discussions and classroom activities. We want them to understand that they cannot see Allah (swt) but he is able to see us and therefore as Muslims we should obey him.  It is important for children to develop their confidence, try new activities, initiate ideas and form positive friendships with their peers so they can make a smooth transition.  Also, we will start to talk about how our body is an Amanah from Allah (swt). Start to look at our family and how they are a blessing from Allah (swt). The children will begin to understand what is right and what is wrong e.g. sharing with others, being kind etc. They will be taught about the importance of respecting each other’s cultures and beliefs and those of other people and families.

Communication and language

To Support children with English as an Additional Language (EAL):

  • using picture books.
  •  Sustain attentive listening by exploring general environment sounds by playing listening games e.g. listening walks, listening movements, using objects to identify different sounds and sound stories etc.
  • Use vocabulary focused on family that are of particular importance to them and the new environment (nursery) for smooth transition.
  • Encourage children to use language as a powerful means of widening contacts, sharing feelings, experiences, ideas, and thoughts by focussing on the following;
    •  ‘Allah Swt made me’
    •  ‘Me as a baby’
    • ‘I am unique’
    • ‘Existence of Allah Swt and Allah Swt is One’.
    •  Theme Reader: Topsy and Tim

Literacy

  • Listen with enjoyment and respond to stories, songs and other rhymes and poems about Allah (SWT).
  • Look at children’s favourite stories and encourage talking about the characters.
  • Encourage children to ascribe meanings to marks that they make as they draw and paint.
  • Develop children’s fine motor skills using various resources.
  • Practise  writing own names and recognising names.

Red Class

Physical development

  • Encourage children to move and handle objects safely such as using jugs to pour water and mark making materials. As a result this will help children to develop their confidence in moving spontaneously to gain control of their body and to become aware of how to negotiate space and objects around them.
  • Assist children to develop good practice with regards to eating, sleeping, and hygiene as our body is Amanah from Allah (swt).
  • Nurture understanding of dependence  on Allah Swt.
  • Basic awareness of personal hygiene and looking after their own belongings.

Understanding of the world

The children will investigate objects and materials by using all of their senses as appropriate, using mirrors to reflect on the difference in Allah (swt’s) creation which will allow them to understand how we are all unique.  We will start to talk about our past and present lives, about our families and other people at circle time and through storytelling. They will talk about the changes and growth from when they were babies, toddlers to now by making a display to highlight how they have changed and grown

Expressive arts and design

We will be using various textured materials and paint to enable them to identify the different textures. Use language and other forms of communication to share the things that they create, or to indicate personal satisfaction or frustration e.g. collages of how they feel and how Allah (Swt) has created everyone unique. Children will be developing their imagination through the kitchen setting, picnic with the bears and the baby clinic
